Knuppelpad in Groningen
Destination Storytelling / Visit Groningen

Discover what you already have.

Three outdoor adventures through Groningen. From peaceful boardwalks at sunrise to coastal landscapes and hidden historical gems.

The Collaboration

Adventure doesn't have to be far away.

I believe some of the most beautiful adventures are the ones waiting right around the corner. You don't always need to travel to the other side of the world to discover somewhere special.

That's exactly why this collaboration with Groningen & Partners felt like such a natural fit.

Their campaign, "Ontdek wat je hebt" (Discover what you already have), encourages people to look at their surroundings with fresh eyes. To appreciate the landscapes, history and little adventures that are already within reach.

Together, we created a three-part Instagram Reel series, each highlighting a different side of Groningen: green nature, the coastal landscape and the combination of heritage and outdoor exploration.

The goal was simple: inspire people to spend more time outside and discover just how much Groningen has to offer.

Sometimes the best way to discover something new is to look a little closer to home.

Forest & Greenery

Chasing the sunrise at the Knuppelpad.

I'd walked the Knuppelpad before, but visiting at sunrise made it feel like an entirely different place.

The first light over the water, the sound of birds and the peaceful atmosphere turned a familiar walking trail into something special. It's exactly the kind of experience that reminds me why I love getting outside.

Coast & Wadden Sea

Walking beyond the dikes.

Some places are worth visiting for the journey alone. De Kiekkaaste is definitely one of them.

From Nieuwe Statenzijl, a wooden boardwalk takes you straight through the reeds and salt marshes towards a birdwatching hide overlooking the Dollard.

It's the only birdwatching hide in the Netherlands located outside the dikes. And with its wide open views, birds and peaceful surroundings, it feels wonderfully remote.

Location 02 / Coast

De Kiekkaaste

Follow the boardwalk through the reeds to a unique viewpoint over the Dollard, where fresh water from the Ems meets the salt water of the Wadden Sea.

Heritage & Nature

From old brick walls to winding forest paths.

This might be one of my favourite combinations when it comes to walking routes: a little bit of history mixed with plenty of nature.

I started at the historic Steenfabriek Rusthoven, exploring the remains of the old brick factory and its ring kiln.

From there, I continued towards Landgoed Ekenstein, where the scenery completely changed. Suddenly I was walking through greenery, along winding paths, water and little bridges.

It's that contrast between industrial heritage and peaceful nature that made this walk so memorable.
